The Carbon Merchants are a pioneer in the Carbon Offset
Market.
Our Carbon Credit services were originally based on Alberta Environment’s
Tillage System Protocols but now includes many other GHG protocols. Our quality
offsets and the sales thereof can reward farmers for better farming and tillage
practices along with new energy efficiencies that reduce the amount of greenhouse
gases in the atmosphere.
The Carbon Merchants are currently accepting contracts
for 2010 - 2011 carbon offset credits. Depending on your farming practices, you
may also be eligible for carbon credits dating back to January, 2002.
The Carbon Merchants and our consultants are committed
to developing solutions that bring more real value to your farm or livestock operations.
The Carbon Merchants have developed a carbon credit program
that is flexible, simple, and rewarding.
The Carbon Merchants have the ability to purchase offset
credits from many different individuals or farmers and sell them in large blocks
to final emitters. This will allow you to sell your credits to The Carbon
Merchants no matter what amount you have.
The Carbon Merchants use the Qsys application for quantification.
The Carbon Merchants have licensed the QSys quantification
system from Failsafe Canada
Inc. This application was initially developed under the Province
of Alberta’s emissions reductions programs. The goal was to develop an end to end
solution designed to meet very unique technology requirements. This customized
GHG management solution serves the hardware and software needs of any
GHG aggregator and was developed in such a fashion that it can be utilized for all
greenhouse gas reduction opportunities in any global location. It supports manages
all information, such as industry practices, historical information, property owners,
property renters, service agreements and aggregation contracts.

COTA Member Code of Practice
Although The Carbon Merchants are not at present a member
of the Carbon Offset Trade Association (COTA), we do recognize and adhere to their
code of practice as outlined below.
Guiding Principles
This association’s essential objective is to uphold ethical standards in all aspects
of their activities within the Alberta Offset System. The purpose of this Code of
Practice is to foster a climate of honesty, truthfulness, transparency and integrity
within the Association.
The Association is responsible for establishing the standards for Best Practice
to create a culture of continuous improvement by its members. As the legal and regulatory
framework continues to evolve, the Association will revisit and update this Code
of Practice, and make amendments to the Code at annual general meetings. While the
Association will oversee and review members’ activities, it is the individual members’
responsibility to comply with the Code of Practice.
Responsibilities
The Code shall be binding on all members. Members shall signify they subscribe to
the Code by signing the membership application form.
- Every member, and/or associated agents and contractors acting on behalf of the Association,
in conducting business in Alberta, shall, in accordance with all laws and regulations
in Alberta, the common law, and the Code of Practice:
- Act honestly and in good faith with a view to the best interests of the client;
- Ensure all information being shared with clients is factual and not misrepresented;
- Exercise the care, due diligence and skill that a reasonably prudent person would
exercise in comparable circumstances;
- Ensure that individual members personal interest and his/her activities are not
brought into conflict; and,

Take all reasonable steps to protect confidential information of the Association,
including agreements, databases, intellectual property, as well as information about
competitive and strategic matters, and undisclosed material information.
Breach
Every member or their agent, shall report, in person or in writing, any known or
suspected breach of the Code of Practice to the (Managing Director, Chair, vice
Chair, Review Committee). The Association shall not allow any retaliation against
a member or their agent who acts in good faith in reporting such breaches.
The (Managing Director, Chair, vice Chair, Review Committee) shall cause an investigation
of any reported breach, and oversee an appropriate response, not limited to corrective
action and preventative measures. The member shall not impede and shall cooperate
fully with any investigation of the Review Committee.
Affirmation
Every member and their agent is expected to read and become familiar with the Code
of Practice and may be required, from time to time, to affirm in writing his or
her compliance with the Code.
